What is WorldBorn?

With WorldBorn, your maps are no longer just static images; they become dynamic environments, rich with interactive elements and multimedia content.

Why WorldBorn Stands Out:
Unlike traditional map tools, WorldBorn doesn’t just create maps — it brings them to life. Turn any image into an interactive experience, whether it’s a hand-drawn fantasy map, a regional chart, or even a photo from your latest adventure.
What WorldBorn is not:
- It’s not a fantasy map generator.
- It’s not a fantasy map maker.
So… what IS it?
Imagine if your fantasy map felt like a place.
Like a fully navigable, interactive world.
Something you can drag, zoom into, and explore — like your own private Google Maps, but for your imagination.
WorldBorn turns any image into a living world.
Use a Wonderdraft map, a scanned hand-drawn map, or even a photo of your dog — if it’s an image, WorldBorn can make it alive.
You can link different maps to your main map:
- Click on a region to open its local map.
- Zoom into a kingdom? Reveal the capital.
- Click a city? Dive into a detailed city layout or access its lore archive.
- ll of this takes place as overlays within your main map, seamlessly connecting your world. The linked maps appear as overlays while maintaining a cohesive and immersive experience. You designate one root map as the central point, and all additional maps open as overlays, preserving the fluidity of exploration.
WorldBorn lets your world expand map by map, layer by layer — but always connected, always alive.
How does it work?
WorldBorn has two modes:
- Editor mode: where you build and customize.
- Showcase mode: pure immersive viewing (no interface distractions).
You can even lock it in Showcase mode and share it as a full-screen web page — via your own site or platforms like Netlify — so others can explore your world like a standalone experience.
The Core: Interactive Zones
Instead of modern-looking pins, WorldBorn lets your map elements be the interaction.
- Define invisible interactive zones anywhere on your map: cities, towers, ruins, forests.
- The world itself becomes clickable.
Customize each zone with:
- Hover content — title, text, image, or a combination.
- On click: reveal custom image + text + sound with a smooth zoom-in animation.
- Ambient audio (wind, music, whispers…) when a zone is clicked.
- Full archive panel per zone — add lore, scrollable text, unlimited images, expandable entries.
- Custom pins or markers with full control over image and size.
- Zoom-level visibility triggers to reveal pins/zones only when needed.
Features and Flexibility:
- Dynamic Exploration: Navigate your map as if moving through a real world — drag, zoom, and discover.
- Immersive Layering: Link maps (regions, cities, detailed views) as overlays. Click on an interactive zone, and the new map appears seamlessly.
- Multimedia Integration: Attach lore, images, sounds, ambient audio, or any multimedia element to enhance your world.
- Flexible Visual Zones: Define zones without intrusive pins. Use any image as an interactive marker.
- Adaptive Cursor: Changes as you explore — magnifying glass for interactive areas, footsteps for hover-only content.
- Standalone Save and Share: Lock your project for sharing as a full-screen web page.
- Customization: No coding required — just point, drag, drop, and your map comes alive.
- Fully Offline: Use WorldBorn without any internet connection.
- Customizable Look: Choose between flat or angled view for that ancient map aesthetic.
- Layer System: Instantly switch between map versions (political, religious, terrain…).
- No DRM or Subscription: One-time purchase, yours forever.
Examples of Use:
- Fantasy World Mapping: Create a kingdom map where each city holds its own lore.
- RPG Campaign Maps: Link your campaign’s lore directly to your maps.
- Creative Projects: From interactive art installations to immersive travel logs.
- Personal Projects: Sensory maps with photos, sounds, or creepy ARGs with hidden messages.
In short:
WorldBorn makes your map feel like a real place.
If you’ve ever wanted your world to be something people can explore, interact with, and get lost inside — WorldBorn might be your new favorite thing.

You can also preview and select the image directly.
Pro Tip:

Supported formats: .jpg
, .png
, .jfif
.
3. How do I add immersive elements to my map?
WorldBorn makes it easy to transform static maps into interactive experiences:
Interactive Zones: Define key areas like cities, landmarks, or entire regions. Zones can respond to hover, click, or both — displaying images, playing sounds, and revealing lore.
Visual Markers: Use any custom image as a pin or marker, giving you total creative freedom. Drop a fantasy flag, a glowing rune, or any custom icon directly onto your map.
Archive Function: Create an interactive codex for each zone, filled with expandable texts, images, and sound files — perfect for lore, character profiles, or hidden secrets.
Dynamic Layers: Add multiple map versions (political, topographic, climate) as interchangeable layers. Switch views without losing geographical consistency.
Multimedia Integration: Attach sounds, images, or text directly to your zones for a rich, layered experience.
4. How do I customize the look and feel?
WorldBorn is all about visual freedom:
Customize the background with a solid color or a textured image.
Add an intro modal with a title, description, and image when your map loads, setting the tone from the first click.
Replace default UI elements like cursors or layer icons to match your project’s aesthetic — from fantasy to sci-fi.
5. Can I share my interactive map with others?
Yes! WorldBorn offers a powerful Standalone Lock feature:
Lock your project in Showcase Mode and export it as a standalone file.
Host it on your website or platforms like Netlify — your visitors can explore the interactive map directly in their browser without needing any extra software.
Once locked as a standalone file, the project becomes view-only. Be sure to save a backup before locking!
6. What if I want to make quick adjustments?
WorldBorn’s intuitive visual interface makes editing fast and easy:
Drag hitboxes and elements directly on the map.
Use the middle mouse button to move a zone without triggering its editor.
Customize tool panels and position them as you like — the interface adapts to your workflow.
7. Can I add sounds and music?
Yes! Use .mp3 files for ambient sounds, music, or narrative clips.
Just place your audio files in the audio/ folder, and they’ll be available for any interactive zone.
8. What are the best practices for map performance?
Keep your map and layer images below 10MB for smooth performance.
Use the Image Optimizer to reduce file size without losing quality.
Toggle Fullscreen Mode with the F key to maximize your immersive experience.
9. Can I use WorldBorn for other settings besides fantasy?
Absolutely! WorldBorn is versatile and adaptable:
Works seamlessly for post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, historical, modern, or any other setting.
About 90% of what appears in Showcase mode can be customized directly through the interface.
For the remaining 10% (like the parchment texture behind archive blocks), replace the image file directly in the project folders to match your specific theme.
Whether it’s a cyberpunk city map, a futuristic space chart, or a haunted urban landscape, WorldBorn adapts to your creative vision.
10. Can I change the map’s look after locking it in standalone mode?
Once you lock your project as a standalone, it becomes read-only.
This process doesn’t export the project but rather converts it into a view-only mode.
Always keep a backup of your editable version before locking, as you won’t be able to make changes afterward.
11. What if I want to create something unique?
With WorldBorn, creativity has no limits:
Build an ARG experience with eerie sounds and hidden messages.
Design a fantasy atlas where every city reveals lore and secrets.
Create interactive travel logs with real photos and stories.
Use immersive sensory maps to enhance storytelling or RPG campaigns.
12. Why choose WorldBorn?
Visual, No-Code Interface: Build without technical knowledge.
Dynamic and Interactive: Transform any image into an explorable world.
Cross-Platform Compatibility: Available on Windows now, coming soon on Linux and Mac.
